Asia Pacific was the fastest growing region for machine learning hiring at pharmaceutical companies in the three months ended October.

The number of jobs in the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 13.2 percent of total machine learning jobs - up from 7.1 percent in the prior-year quarter.

It was followed by Europe, where the role of machine learning changed by -1.8 percentage points compared to the previous year.

The figures are compiled by GlobalData, which tracks the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. These job advertisements are then classified thematically by means of text analysis.

GlobalData's thematic approach to sector activities aims to group key company information by topic to see which companies are best positioned to weather the upheavals that will affect their industries.

These key topics, which include machine learning, are selected to "cover all of the issues that keep a CEO up at night".

By tracking them across job advertisements, we can see which companies are leaders on certain topics and which are lagging behind - and most importantly, where the market is expanding and shrinking.

Which countries are seeing the greatest growth in machine learning roles in the pharmaceutical industry?

The fastest growing country was India, which served 4.9 percent of all machine learning job ads in the three months ended October last year and rose to 8.2 percent in the three months ended October this year.

This was followed by China (plus 2.8 percentage points), Poland (plus 2.1) and Canada (plus 1.7).

The leading country for machine learning in the pharmaceutical industry is the United States, where 52.1 percent of all roles were filled in the three months ended October.

Which cities are the biggest machine learning hubs in the pharmaceutical industry?

In Cambridge, UK, around 3.9 percent of all machine learning jobs in the pharmaceutical industry were advertised in the three months to October - more than any other city.

Cambridge (USA) followed with 3.9 percent, Boston (USA) with 3.3 percent and Warsaw (Poland) with three percent.
