Human trafficking risk continues to evolve
Human and sex trafficking litigation has evolved from lawsuits against small motels to larger lawsuits against chain hotels and now technology companies, all of whom are accused of complacency in what some consider to be the fastest growing criminal company. More than 115 lawsuits have been filed in both state and federal courts, insurers are currently working on improving coverage and liability management solutions, and awareness is rising. More than 40 states have laws requiring companies to train workers to identify instances of human trafficking, moderators said Wednesday at the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.'s 2021 conference, which took place virtually.
