Canada and FCM invest in asset management in Alberta communities
Of: Infrastructure Canada
For this reason, the Canadian government is investing US $ 985,500 in 21 new projects in Alberta's communities through the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP), which is run by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) on behalf of the federal government. The program helps communities strengthen local infrastructure planning and decision-making by increasing local wealth management capacity by investing in activities such as wealth management training, technology and software improvements, and information sharing.
With funding from MAMP:
- The City of Whitecourt will develop and implement specific, measurable and achievable goals along with a strategy that provides a clear direction and approach to implementing asset management for the community. The asset management implementation plan ensures that infrastructure decisions are aligned with the city's strategic plan and the city's organizational goals and objectives to ensure a sustainable and resilient community.
- The City of Legal will inspect and analyze the condition of its sanitary sewer systems through video surveillance, as well as assess and model water networks. This roadmap will enable the city to apply sound management practices for current and future capital improvements and to prioritize spending in the right areas.
- The village of Donnelly and its neighbors will implement sustainable wealth management practices for the foreseeable future. The most important achievements include an achievable breakdown of future tasks through the creation of a roadmap for asset management, a consolidated basic inventory for future investment decisions and an increased exchange of knowledge with neighboring communities and the public.
Details on all 21 projects can be found in the backgrounder.
