Study pre-university business at Galway Community College of Further Education


Galway Community College (GCC) continues to offer a wide range of continuing education courses in business. The college offers Level 5 QQI accredited courses in Economics and Accounting, Legal and Medical Secretary, Marketing and Web Design, Business Administration and Retail Pharmacy Assistant. GCC also offers a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business Management and Accounting. These courses help students develop key communication skills, presentation skills, and improved project management while learning key IT programs and techniques.

The pre-college business courses offered by GCC provide advancement to universities and ITs in Galway and across the country. All business courses help students understand the latest software applications and apply their learning in a hands-on internship throughout the academic year. Students have found employment in many local businesses and with the opportunity to earn 390 CAO points by completing a GCC course, advancement to higher education institutions becomes a reality. By studying the Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business Management, GCC students can jump straight into the second year of some GMIT programs with which the college makes an agreement on that advanced progression.

The opportunity to take a continuing education course is now attractive to high school leavers and those looking to continue their education, as the costs involved are low compared to going to college. The registration fee for a full-time course is € 175 with a government tax of € 200. Many are exempt from the latter if they have a SUSI scholarship, a health card or a BTEA allowance. Prospective students are encouraged to apply to SUSI, Ireland's National Registrar, for all college and continuing education scholarships.
